Just for some information, I can run TF2 (another source game) at max settings at a good 70 fps. However, in GMod I only get 50 fps on max settings on gm_construct. Of course lowering the settings help, but other people get 150 fps on the same GPU. Changing to the Intel HD 4600 does not help either. I get 15 fps on that one. Drivers for both devices are updated. My Nvidia settings are:
Ambient Occlusion: Off
Anisotropic Filtering: App-controlled
Antialiasing- Gamma correction: On
Antialiasing- FXAA: Off
Antialiasing- Mode: Application Controlled
Antialiasing: Transparency: Off
CUDA- GPUs: All
Max Prerendered frames: Use the App settings
Multidisplay/mixed GPU acceleration: Multiple display performance mode
Power management mode: Adaptive
Texture filtering: Anisotropic sample opti...: Off
Texture filtering- Negative LOD Bias: allow
Texture filtering: Quality: Quality
Texture filtering: Trilinear optimization: On
Threaded optimization: Auto
Triple buffering: Off
Verticle sync: Use the 3D application setting

I am not overheating, I get this crappy FPS all the time, 24/7. Funny to think that L4D2 never lags EVER, even though its a source game and there are loads of zombies running around in the map. Any help? Thanks.

EDIT: Lol, I just noticed that steam censored out part of my Optical Drive name

I never said anything about users with lower-end parts. I am just stating the fact that I am not getting appropriate framerate for my hardware.

It could depend on what you're rendering. :) Or, more accurately, how.

Odd, never had issues with my high-end. Try reinstalling the game, it's the only advice I can give. But you don't happen to cause the lag from playing the game perhaps? If you spawn too many NPCs and props, or have a bad addon it should cause some serious lag.

Try putting -dxlevel 80 on the launch options of your Garry's Mod

No, I have tested with no addons and it doesnt make a difference. Here is a screenshot: http://imgur.com/VR6Q3k0 Absolutely no props, no NPC's nothing, and 50 fps on gm_construct. Its probably because I have an alienware 14.... waste of $2000

This is an old thread. I already fixed it by turning off my intel card (laptop had an option for that) apparently source games had compatibility issues where it would detect the wrong GPU.

Stop it. A GTX 960/970 will work just fine.

it is because of the amature map makers, those maps are not made by professionals, the maps are not like L4D 1 or 2, the skybox will lag the PC no matter what. the map is the problem, not the PC.:melon:
