f1 f2 f3 f4 for mac

Im doing a gmod where messages are poping up and its telling me to push f1 to close and my f keys never work for games so i changed my show help team help spare 1 and spare 2 from f1f2f3f4 to 1234 on my keyboard above my letters.I do think that before they were f keys.
pushing 1234 doest close the messages but how ever when i push 3 it does open a menu

How do i do the f1 f2 f3 f4 function on mac?

Press and hold the 'fn' key (it should be in the bottom left-hand corner of your keyboard). While you have it held down, your 'F' keys should operate normally, instead of just adjusting volume, brightness, and the like.

I have the same problem in windows 10, the F1 F2 F3 keys dont work, but F4 do.
