Windows 10 Crash on joining server

Nothing has worked so far. I've verified, I've deleted all my addons, everything. I'm not downgrading and I'm not deleting my games and reinstalling them all, so don't bother suggesting that. Tried compatibility with Win 7 as well, still didn't work. Doesn't matter what server, same for all. Singleplayer works just fine.

Right after I get "sending client info..." I get a black screen and a crash to desktop. No error message except that the gmod icon is still in my task bar, and all it says is "engine error".

Just tried reinstalling Gmod, didn't work. Surprise.

Clean install windows 10 (I had problems after upgrading), you can put the games on a hard drive, if you have one.

Yeah, I'd rather not. Installing Windows 10 in the first place nearly made me hang myself. Everything that could have gone wrong went wrong. I'm not going to reinstall my entire OS to fix one game. There has to be a much simpler solution. I can't be the only one who had this problem.

I'm sitting here with Windows 10 and the same problem except not even singleplayer works, every other game works fine though I don't get it.

I've had little to no problems with all other games, just gmod that refuses to work. I can't find anything on google about it, and you're the only other person that I know of who seems to have the same problem. Does singleplayer give you the engine error as well?

Yep no matter what I do or what I load it's engine error. I've done all the things you have, deleted every worskhop addon and tried reinstalling. Now I'm in the middle of reinstalling all the source games Ihave because curiosly Half-Life 2 gave me a similiar error when launching it, something about .dll not working, but it doesn't necessarily mean anything I don't think. We'll see soon enough.. Or I'll just go insane when i'm out of random things to try

Maybe you could try reinstalling DirectX or something. I initially thought it was a Dx9 error and that I needed to install it despite already having newer versions. But the fact that singleplayer works fine for me over-rules that theory. I also got an error dealing with fonts upon joining a server at one point. I'm not sure if I fixed that or not, or if it even matters.

I have same problem, but instead of having crashing game returning to windows, I have a freeze and can't use task manager to kill the process, yet forced to reset the entire computer...

Hey did you guys figure it out? If not try this.
If you are using EVGA Precision X tool, close it before playing Gmod.
Was having the same error with CS:GO, now it works.
Dont know why it conflicts but it works.

Yes, I forgot to come back to this when I found that out. I was having a similar problem with CS:GO and it was caused by Precision, same for Gmod.

Now I'm using MSI Afterburner and I hope that doesn't end up having any problems as well.
