How do I get npc's to walk around?
I'm looking for a way to get npc's to move around at random.

Any help would be great

Thanks.

SNPC's (some) are some what capeable granted you have a noded map but, and it really depends. you could attempt to node a map in single player using the command "nav_quicksave 1" then "nav_generate" (nav_generate takes a long time depending, your game didn't freeze... it just takes a lot of resources), and then when its finally done, "nav_save" (takes a tiny ammount of time).
I think that the development of NextBot has waaay more potential then SNPC's though. I wish people were more savy with their knowledge in creating nextbots because I've seen some cool stuff come out of what i've seen so far. I imagine designing a nextbot takes a lot of work.

Thanks for the reply. I'm new to Gmod so I'm trying to get the hang of things and trying to figure out how to make npc's walk was one of them. I'm not really familiar with console commands....do i have to select the npc and then use "nav_quicksave1" ect. ?

Try typing this command on console, ent_fire "npc's_name" startpatrolling, without the quotes

This is probably a dumb question but how do I figure out the npcs name?

What if it's a custom npc? Like one i got from the workshop?

i found a fix when you have to spawn the npc in with the toolgun while you have the option ''ignore players'' on what you do then is you disable that option AFTER you spawned the npc in it will start roaming around and what you can do then is re-eneble the option and the npc will still roam around (it worked for me when i used a zombie i dont know about citizens)

If the custom npc is an enemy, you type in npc_combine_s or if it is friendly type in npc_citizen

For VJBase SNPCs, there should be a DrVrej tab and an NPC Settings option in the spawnmenu to enable/disable wandering. As for normal NPCs or SNPCs using other bases, there might be mods on the workshop for you to use.

If you are talking about Nextbots (which are basically NPCs but far less complexed and more annoying), then type "nav_generate" in the console. Note that it will take a very long time to finish.

This mod makes npcs more clever, However they always know where you are when on the map. It also makes them patrol randomly.

No one gives a normal answer:
-For vanilla npc you need a fully noded map and iNPC
-NO nav generate that is for nextbots you need to use the nodegraph editor and follow the instructions
-For SNPCs you need a noded map cause they ussually patrol when spawned
-Other npc that are not half life 2 (example the half life 1 grunts) you need npc patrol tool
-NO OTHER COMPLICATED COMMANDS AND ♥♥♥♥ TUTORIALS

This is really late, but:
ent_fire !picker startpatrolling
!picker is a special variable name that represents the entity your crosshair is touching
