Garry's Mod server list loading VERY slowly
First things first, I'm running Windows 10 on a good laptop. Probably not a problem with my computer itself. Whenever I go to multiplayer in gmod, the servers load SLOWLY. VERY SLOWLY. Normally all of them appear in a matter of seconds. Now, all of them won't appear even after an hour. Even in Legacy Browser it only shows IP's. They all have 0/0 players and 2000 latency. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Hey I had this same problem and checked all the other threads about this and found no answers but I think I might have something to help.

In your Garrys Mods cfg folder put this code in your autoexec.cfg file

// To uncomment a section, remove the // from all but the description line. // ------- // FPS CAP // ------- fps_max "121" // Caps fps to improve performance. The best value for this is freq * 2 + 1. Do not set lower than cl_cmdrate or you will experience hitreg issues. // ------------ // NET SETTINGS // ------------ // Net settings for good connections -- UNCOMMENT THIS SECTION IF YOU WANT THESE SETTINGS //cl_cmdrate "101" // default 30; //cl_updaterate "101" // default 20; //cl_interp "0.01" // default 0.1; Improves hit registration //cl_lagcomp_errorcheck "1" // default 0; //cl_lagcompensation "1" // default 1; Improves hit registration //cl_resend "1.5" // default 6; How many seconds to wait before retrying to connect to a server //cl_smooth "1" // default 1; Causes stuttering effect, tries to fix prediction errors. //cl_smoothtime "0.01" // default 0.1; //rate "25000" // default 10000; // ------ // SPRAYS // ------ // Enable sprays -- not enabled by default cl_playerspraydisable "0" r_decals "200" r_spray_lifetime "2" // ------- // SHADOWS // ------- // Enable shadows -- not enabled by default mat_shadowstate "1" r_shadowmaxrendered "11" r_shadowrendertotexture "0" // Set this to 1 for high definition shadows r_shadows "1" // Misc cl_predict "1" cl_predictweapons "1" cl_showfps "1" // Show unsmoothed FPS meter cl_showpluginmessages "0" // Performance cl_forcepreload "1" // Preloads maps, may cause a few seconds more loading the map at the benefit of a more consistent FPS (because the whole map is preloaded) cl_soundemitter_flush "1" //m_rawinput "1" // Uncomment to enable raw mouse input -- DO NOT ENABLE IF YOU ARE USING XFIRE OVERLAY mat_bufferprimitives "1" mat_clipz "1" // FX owners should set this to 0 mat_disablehwmorph "0" mat_disable_ps_patch "1" mat_forcehardwaresync "0" mat_forcemanagedtextureintohardware "0" mat_framebuffercopyoverlaysize "0" mat_levelflush "0" mat_maxframelatency "0" mat_postprocessing_combine "1" mat_vsync "0" r_fastzreject "-1" // Some ATI cards aren't autodetected, if you know that your card supports it, try setting it to 1. r_hunkalloclightmaps "0" r_lightcache_zbuffercache "0" r_occlusion "1" r_unloadlightmaps "0" soundscape_flush "1" // Threading cl_threaded_bone_setup "0" cl_threaded_client_leaf_system "0" mat_queue_mode "-1" r_threaded_client_shadow_manager "1" r_threaded_particles "1" r_threaded_renderables "1" r_queued_decals "0" r_queued_post_processing "0" r_queued_ropes "1" tf_dingaling_wav_override "hitsound.wav" sv_cheats "0" // Console printout clear echo "-------------------------------------------------------" echo " Config loaded. " echo "-------------------------------------------------------" exec hldj_init.cfg

This fixed it for me and I hope this helps

Note: You may have to adjust some settings to your liking but I recommend keeping anything not graphic related alone

Do this :

2) Open Steam

3) Go to "Settings"

4) Go "In-Game"

5) Set "5000 pings / minutes"

6) Open Garry's Mod and enjoy

Hello user! After 6 years hopefully you have fixed this issue. To anyone looking at this post here are some fixes if you have these try of issues.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Go to Steam > Settings > In-Game and Set pings lower and lower until it starts working correctly.

Try talking to your ISP about the issue.

Try to take the Modem/Router as an accomplice, recently I've been having the same issues for around 2 years until we finally got a new modem from our ISP and it has been working better loading servers faster than ever, it's because of the core in the Modem/Router that works and if its overloaded with tasks it may slow itself down.

If you're using a hotspot, I'd highly recommend to make sure you have a good connection testing with http://speedtest.net.

(Have at least 25 download, and 7 Upload even on your modem/router.)
