Console won't open

Something very strange has happened to gmod...

when i press the key to open the dev console, nothing happens,but just yesterday it was working, in fact i had not even closed Gmod, i tried adding -console to the startup settings, the console still won't show.

when i press the ` key the cursor changes to the IBeam cursor for a split second then returns to normal, no console shows though.

the console is vital for me to connect to friends servers as the ydont show up on LAN neither can i click join game in steam as i get 'server not responding' , so if anyone could help, i would appreciate it.

Try press F10

Go to options. Click the keyboard tab then at the bottom of the tab there should be a tab that says advanced. Click advanced then check enable developer console.

Rebind the tilde key to open the console.
