Are "Secure" gmod servers safe?

Just wanna know because I get really paranoid when it comes to downloading stuff from the internet!!(which is why im on steam!) But people say they'res only one gmod virus and thats the "gman" virus, I just want to know if the Secure ones dont have this! Please reply so I can play soon! Thanks. =D

The gman virus is fake, so don't worry about it. Of course secure servers are safe. It's in the definition.

Even if the server is VAC Secured, that won't stop any "virus" because it would use an exploit to bypass it.

Unfortunely, there rarely, rarely may be a workshop mod that has some sort of computer virus/trojan in it, but aslong as you have an decent anti-virus, it should detect it before it infects your computer.

There is litteraly nearly no way someone could add a Virus to a Garrys Mod Addon.

Well people can modify things to make them appear as the real garry :D when they are not. So I bet there's some sort of damage that could be done to your game or computer.

There is, its possible for the virus to use a exploit to bypass Gmod's file checking/steam's file checking.

There were multiple exploits in the past, and most of them have been since patched.

Well what about maps and addons??? Aren't those downloaded, so couldn't that affect my laptop??? I'm a little paranoid because I'm new to Gmod, and I didn't know that the maps and mods and addons were downloaded.

Someone could probably do that. It's just the risk you take with any game which can be heavily modded. I myself have tonnes of addons and have played the game for 2.3k hours and have experienced one exploit which screwed up my game but that's it.

I think they should be safe. Those running the servers would check the addons and maps first to ensure it's nothing dodgy. And if you join a server with barely any addons maybe that will help you be a little less paranoid. I've played the same server every day for 2 years, VAC secured, never had an issue like that, however we don't have many addons or mods purely because we don't like them.

You can join any Garry's Mod server and not have to worry about a thing. It's not very common for the server to effect your game or computer in anyway.
