How to optimize the ping in multiplayer?

My friends join my server and we can play normally with a low ping, but when we fight with npcs my friends will be extremely laggy. How can I optimize it, can any addons do work?

Either slow CPU (host) or poorly written addons. Source implementation of Havok isn't well known for being robust when it comes to handling billions of collision checks.
