RAM issue with Garry's Mod on Fedora (Linux)

Ok so, when i launch garry's mod on my Desktop, i can see that the use of ram that garry's mod takes is about 500 Megabytes. But while joining servers - the ram will rise, if it's downloading an addon for too long the whole computer will freeze for a while and garry's mod will crash. Now it only ever crashes on my laptop as that has 8GB of RAM and i don't join enough servers for my 16GB of ram to be used up on my Desktop

What i am saying is, one i have joined the server the used RAM will stay at how much it was used to download those addons (on the loading screen) so i f i'm on the loading screen for 2 minuets it would;ve used about 7GB of RAM, and it will stay at 7GB of RAM used. If i leave the server and join another server, and that takes 2 minutes to load the RAM usage would be 14GB of RAM used. NOw i used to use WIndows and i know this is a problem with Fedora or just Linux in general. The rest of garry's mod runs great, but some servers my brother can't join me because the loading times are too long and it just crashes.

Would be amazing if this could get a fix in the future,

These are the minimum requirements for Garrys mod on Linux, if they don't match up that may be the problem:

OS: Ubuntu 12.04
Processor: 1.8 GHz Processor
Memory: 2 GB RAM
Graphics: 512MB
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Storage: 5 GB available space
Additional Notes: Mouse, Keyboard, Monitor

I'm not asking about RAM, does your computer meet these standards?

If i have 16GB of ram and i'm using LInux, do you think i'd be using a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ pentium? Or a 750 Ti?
