Yes it is safe, I've port-forwarded many servers before, nothing has happened to me. (Roughly 1 year of having some open ports)

i higly dought there is a hacker waiting for that one moment to get you EVEN IF he finds a way (wich is very unlikley), unless you have some sort of virus on your computer, otherwise its safe

THANKS YOU GUYS REALY HELPED
Drop $10-20 per month and pay for a server with a hosting provider if you're concerned about security.

Depending on the size of the server, it might only cost you 2 euros/month to get a host.

As far as I am aware, portforwarding is the 2nd safest way to host a Gmod server (1st being a paid for host). The most likely thing to happen is that when someone DDoSes the server, your internet will go down as well as they are on the same connection, that's the only real concern.
I've had various ports open on my router for many years. Nothing has ever happened to my 2 HP rackmounts. I think you're safe.

Also, not to be rude, but I hope you are only planning on running a small private server for friends. We don't need anymore tweens attempting to run public servers who are too lazy to bother with grammar.

its basicly if you piss someone off and they know about hacking it would make there job more easy so dont go to shady places and piss people off if you're going to forward your ports

Of course I still live with my parents... Im not legally allowed to sign a lease at age 17 here in Canada, thus making it impossible for me to have a space of my very own to reside in.

Im sorry, but you might want to go check the definition of "picking on". Simply saying that "I hope tweens who cannot be bothered to use proper grammar are not making public servers" is not picking on them. I never called them stupid, I never called them inferior, and I never made fun of them. I simply stated that I don't think tweens should be running public servers if they cannot put the effort forward to use proper punctuation & sentence structure. Communication is a huge part of running any sort of public based server, and if you can't do that effectivly, expect trouble. End of story. Take that as you wish.
