Manually-added Addons don't appear within the client
Addons that I have manually downloaded and dropped into the addons folder aren't loading in gmod.

They have been checked and these addons are as recent as having been created in July of this year (ie: last month, for excess clarity lol), so it should not be a matter of these addons simply being out-of-date. They contain their addon.txt file within the folders, as I have been told is needed.

I have tried with several different addons and I just can't seem to get them to work! I've even downloaded ones specifically from the Garry's Mod website!

I understand that the workshop exists and I can get addons from there but there is specific content and textures I need in order to for gameplay to be compatible with my friends.. ie: my entire reason for buying Gmod in the first place :(

Nobody ever pays attention to that rule, and the mods don't enforce it.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that non workshop mods no longer work with GMod.

I'm sorry about the bump but i posted this thread and hadn't received a single reply in the 20 hours the thread was alive. By that point I was on like, page 7 or something and was guaranteed to never get help.

Lolnope. I use precision alignment all the time, and I had to install that manually. Wiremod was pulled from the workshop, so I had to install it from github.

Inside the addon's folder is an addon.txt or info.txt
Please check if it says addon.txt and not info.txt

The info.txt is the old system, and Garry's Mod refuses to read/load addons that continue to use this system. Hence why some people believe that old addons don't work anymore.
Some do, but they need to rename the info.txt to addon.txt.

Hope this solves your problem.

I addressed this already in my original post. :( They're definitely addon.txt Thanks for the reply.

I just tested it, seems you're right.
Did this happen recently or was it ever mentioned in a changelog somewhere? Because I remember Garry's Mod 13 strictly not accepting addons that did not have addon.txt

Not sure, but I always seem to remember GMod loading legacy addons regardless of their folder contents so long as they were properly set up.

Maybe I'm thinking of the GMod 13 Beta, but anyway. To avoid going off topic.
