Updating dedicated Gmod server; SRCDS & SteamCMD

I have tried going into the console and doing the update but to no avail. I have SRCDS and CMD, does anyone have a step by step process/troubleshooting to help with updating my server? Many thanks.

An error message pops up in the CMD console when I do so, and have done it many times before.

Stating I am not logged into Steam, but I'm guessing I forgot to put login anonymous. Although, when I attempted to do the update weeks ago and it had finished, I still couldn't connect and the game stated my server was still out of date. What the heck am I doing wrong here?

First open steam cmd then type: login anonymous
if successful continue, if not type: Login (yourSteamNameHere) then hit enter and enter your password
after signing in, direct steam cmd to your server files, so you need to type: force_install_dir (Then the directory your server files are installed to)
after that type app_update 4020
once it finishes type app_update 4020 validate
after thats done type quit
and your done!

I do this as well, but every time I do it makes a new folder called Terrortown

Note to future self because I am bound to find this page again a fourth time later on:
run steamcmd.sh
login anonymous
force_install_dir /home/steam/gmod
app_update 4020 validate

The director is the part I mess up every time. Dont forget. Good luck future self.

Ive also been having problems when i updated the server it ran fine but when i tryed to connect it said my game was out of date!

Im having this problem to any answers, Iv updated server throgh steam cmd but says server out of date when i try to join.

i got the same issue, i reinstalled the server and still i get the error that my server is out of date, even after validating in steamcmd

I can help you!

First try this:

1. run steamcmd
   
2. type "login anonymous"
   
3. type "app_update 4020 validate"
   
4. type "quit"

NOTE: this is just as an UPDATE!

If this DOES NOT work for you and you get this Error when joining the Game:
"The Server you are trying to connect is running an older Game Version" or anything similar than try this:

1. open the StemCMD folder in your Explorer
   
2. go into the gm folder
   
3. go into the garrysmod folder
   
4. open the steam.inf file
   
5. now open your own garrys mod folder
   
6. for this: open steam > go to Libary > rightclick on Garry's Mod > click on properties > click on local files > click on Browse Local files
   
7. in your own garrysmod Folder open the garrysmod folder > open the Steam.inf File in here, too
   
8. now copy the text in there with Crtl + C or Strg + C
   
9. go into the Steam.inf File you found in your Server Data, when you are in there Paste the copied text! You can do this with Crtl + V or Strg + V
   
10. now save the file for this click on File in the top left corner and click on save
    
11. now restart/start your Server!
    
12. it should work fine now
