im prety sure there is a voice seting that you can enable either on steam or ingame that automaticaly picks up sound transmited tthrough your microphone. Most people don''t use this feature as it is highly likely to pickup background noise and also sometimes it has a delayed activation which can cause the microphone to only transmit after your first couple of words.

If I remember correctly, you can type in +voice_enable in console or something like that.
