How do I manually install addons?

I exctracted it to the addons folder, but it just doesn't appear in-game.

use the addonfile and put it in addonsfolder, no folder as an addon

The addon should go in (windows users)

\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\addons

if you put it in here, and the addon is set up correctly, it should appear in game. Otherwise, the addon may not actually be an addon, or it might just simply not be working.

I put them there. the mod was outdated

From the steam workshop? It should be under "addons" in the spawn menu.
