Escape02 (portal map) crashing to desktop, "Tell a programmer"
Escape02 is one of my favorite maps, but it seems to have recently suffered some major issues. It crashes with an error message like "too many indices for index buffer. tell a programmer (BigNumber>BigNumber)" when I look at certain parts of the level at a funny angle. Normally, I'd just ignore that part, as it's not in the main GLaDos chamber, but my preferred portal gun addon consistently crashes with the same error when I place open portals near GLaDos. The addon is perfectly stable in every other map, including all the other unaffected portal maps, so the addon isn't at fault; it's likely forcing that broken level area to render as if I'd looked at it.

Does anyone know what could be causing this? I'm willing to decompile the map and fix it in Hammer, I just need to know what's going on.

EDIT: The exact same issue occurred in the prior update, so it's not an update issue.

did I not put it in help/problems/bugs? That's what this is...

The map functions perfectly in portal, only gmod crashes. Even nocliping in portal works fine, it's definitely a Gmod issue.

All other portal maps function just fine, and Gmod actively supports them in it's mounting section. This is the only map that doesn't work.

Ok. Thanks for the tip ;)

Well, GMod was based off of Half-Life 2, so you'd expect some errors if you're going to try to play a Portal map.
Portal runs on the same engine as garrys mod does. If he's facing issues running the map on garrys mod and not portal itself, then its an issue relating to garrys mod, thus posting here was a good idea.

Same engine, different mechanics. Something might always break, and burn if only one thing is missing.
thats not how that works. the map should load fine. granted some 'entities' or custom properties within the map itself can break, but the map should load no problem. I'm a mapper and I have loaded maps that are actually broken with no problem.

Does anyone know what could be causing this? Anything related to the crash error (too many indices for index buffer. tell a programmer (BigNumber>BigNumber) would be appreciated. Again, I'll happily mod the map in hammer so it can work. Has anyone else experienced a crash like this with a similar error message?

where do i go to download the things that say error?

It's just the final map in portal. If you've bought the game and mounted it, you can play it.

I may have found the issue. Some painful online research suggests that this is occasionally caused by broken overlays, and there is a broken overlay around the affected area. I'm just having issues with hammer now :I
