Disabling automatic overlays
I'm trying to create a screenshot underwater, but the water overlay that automatically turns on when submerged is ruing it. Is there any way to disable the overlay for when you go underwater? I've tried setting mat_wateroverlaysize to 0, but that did nothing

There is a drawback however; it will also disable the water's surface material, and everything outside of the water or within a certain distance will be made the water's fog colour.

While the underwater fog effect can be disabled by typing fog_enable_water_fog 0 , you'll still be left with a rather unpleasing view when looking up at the skybox.

I'm curious about this too, yet i can't find much about it.

There was a thread on Facepunch's forum about it, but... well... it's gone.

I was also able to do it with the Extended Rendering mod, which adds checkboxes for commands like that to the Utilities tab under "Render." Thank you for the answer, however!
