Normally, I would check your addons page and disable them and then reinstall them. If that doesn't work, try going to your steam files. Look for Garry's mod, find a file called download and delete some darkrp stuff

* Choose Properties
* In the window that appears, click Launch Options
* In the text box that appears, type '-dxlevel 70'
* Press OK to close all the boxes

Now try to run Garry's Mod.

I also use Linux, and have a lot of experience with games being broken, and as nice as it would be to just reinstall the addon, it never works :/

I'm not criticizing your suggestion; it's a fair one; but unfortunately it always has more to do with Source being a sh**ty engine.

The issue here is probably the DirectX virtualization. Source doesn't actually support OpenGL, which is the library Linux & Mac OS use for rendering. Instead, Valve just made a bandaid of a port for the two systems, creating essentially a "translator" between Microsoft's DirectX and OpenGL. This means that the rendering is very glitchy and often causes crashes.

The other issue is that Source is a 32-bit engine, meaning it can only use a maximum of 2GB of memory, even though my computer has 16GB. Before anybody wastes their time making this suggestion, the -64bit flag does not do anything, and I know there was another flag that was supposed to let you increase memory, but that also won't go above the 2GB limit.

I'm sorry this is a very negative post, but at some point you just have to face that GMod wasn't built for Linux, and give up trying.

Although I've never actually tried this, you could theoretically install Steam (and by extension GMod) in Wine (although WineHQ (https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=5217) rates it as "Garbage"...), or in a Windows VM.

If you use a VM, I would suggest either using Linux's built-in KVM system or VMWare, as VirtualBox and the likes don't support graphics passthrough, so the game would be running entirely off of CPU instead of your graphics acceleration.

Just to be clear, I'm not discouraging anybody from using Linux! Linux is a great operating system, and with the disaster of Windows 10, more and more people are switching to it and, as a result, more games with half-decent Linux ports are coming out! I personally know Starbound, Factorio, Kerbal Space Program, Terraria, FTL, a game nobody's heard of called "Gangs of Space", and Don't Starve to work well in Linux, while games built on Unity are generally very laggy, and games built on Source such as TF2, GMod, and HL2 typically crash a lot and are generally unfun to work with. That being said, I am an avid TF2 player, and just recently bought HL2, so it is not impossible...!

This is starting to become a really long post, but I'll just clear up some of the hate:

- Yes, I know I didn't actually address the veliest420society.gg♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.com's problem

- Yes, I know that I'm wrong and Windows 10 is actually an amazing operating system and how could you ever say what you did

- Yes, I know that I'm just generally a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ person

If you have any more hate, please reply! :P

Ok, but seriously, I'm really sorry I don't have a real solution for you, but trust me, I feel your pain. Literally the only reason I'm writing this post right now is because I'm suffering through the same problems with GMod that you are, and I'm just as pissed about it. I would recommend showing interest online in a NEW Garry's Mod, made with a NEW game engine built to be truly platform-compatible, not just the sad excuses of compatibility Unity and Source provide. Again, as a Linux user myself, I want this to become a reality just as much as you do, and also as a game developer myself, I realize that such a game would take an incredible amount of work, simply too much for one person to accomplish, and if this is to become a thing, we need to show that if a team of people were to put in the time and effort to create such a game, people would actually buy the game and appreciate it. If somebody created a Linux GMod a few years ago, it would've gone unnoticed, as most gamers back then used Windows (And most still do), so it is important to show to the community that there are Linux gamers, and that we will support what they create.

My rant is over now, hope you don't think I'm a complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥! :D
