Garry's mod keeps validating
A few days ago I kept trying to play gmod but the game kept on crashing and crashing to the point of getting annoying. A friend told me to validate my game to fix the issue, so I did. After the validating was complete I went to play the game to see it was still validating. I kept trying to stop it but I couldn't. To make things even more confusing, it kept filling up space on my C drive rather than the drive I use for all my gaming stuff, where I have the gmod stuff on in there.

I looked around and different stuff to do, like clearing the download cache which worked at first until I played the game and then the validating just reset. I reinstalled the game, re-downloaded all my addons and the game still kept on validating. I even reset my PC in the hopes it would stop but it has not.

I'm not sure if this is an issue with Gmod or steam so if anyone knows of what to do please let me know.

This is most likely an issue with your virus scanner. There may be a false alarm. If so, you'll need to add an exception for Garry's Mod and report the issue.

Same here. Might just be what Vertex said. I realized my AV is quarantining some "bass.dll" file, when I download the update.

I checked my AV and nothing seems to be quarantined. I checked and it allows garrys mod and other files relating to gmod. I can't seem to find where this bass.dll file is.

I didn't find the file in quarantine either, which is weird. Just the notification. And I searched for the file and found it in 2 locations unrelated to GMod.

I've asked around my discord group about it and they're all telling me it's such a unique problem I've got. Dunno if anyone's had this issue before with a game verifying over and over again. I can still play the game (until it crashes) but it still fills up so much space on the C drive until I clear the download cache.

Aight I think I fixed it. Kind of a silly thing I didn't realize what the issue was. It was just over addons and I had to unsub from many of them and only the ones I used. After that the problem stopped.

I wasn't able to play, even after unsubbing all addons.

I think I found a solution to the problem you may be having, as I spent hours trying to resolve the issue on my end too. If bass.dll is missing in your Steam path > steam\steamapps\downloading\4000\bin\bass.dll, you may need to download it separately into your Gmod folder.

For whatever reason Steam would NOT install this for me. If you search "Bass audio library" on a major search engine, your first hit should link to a page where you can download it as a zip file for Windows/iOS/Linux/Android/etc. (I don't know the forum rules for linking directly to an outside source, so I will omit it for now).

I had to click and drag bass.dll from zip folder into steam\steamapps\downloading\4000\bin on my drive, and Gmod will now launch and seems stable and playable. Hope this helps someone out here on the internet!
