D3DX9_40.dll not found, can't start the game.

Every time I try to start the game, the game gives me an error saying that it can't find "D3DX9_40.dll" and I've been following the guidelines on the website the error sent me to, but the problem is that it's not even in the folders that it told me to look. In addition, I have tried downloading directly from Microsoft's website and it gives me an error telling me that it can't install on my machine.

I'm not sure what to do now, and I would like some help understanding what exactly is going on. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Go to your launch options by going to Steam Library -> Right click GMod -> Properties -> Set Launch Options

Add this:

+gmod_mcore_test 1 +cl_threaded_bone_setup 1 +cl_threaded_bone_setup 1 +cl_threaded_client_leaf_system 1 +r_threaded_client_shadow_manager 1 +r_threaded_particles 1 +r_threaded_renderables 1 +r_queued_ropes 1 -gl

Have you Reinstalled yet?

Is DirectX installed? Also try installing Net.Framework 2.5 or higher.

I've reinstalled multiple times, even on different drives and it still tells me that I don't have D3DX9_40.dll.

DirectX and Net.Framework 4.5 is installed.
It still gives me the error

I'm having the same issue, same file missing, i copied it from another added it to gmod. uninstalled and reinstalled direct x and gmod. restart restart restart. Just tried launch options and still same thing...

the module "d3dx9_40.dll failed to load make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .dll files
