gmod cpu problem

hey i had gmod on my laptop and i was playing on it perfectly on windows 8 then my hard drive failed so i replaced it and installed windows 10 and i downloaded gmod again and whenever i start up the game gmod uses about 80% cpu but it didnt use that much before, i did change compability settings to windows 8 but that didnt work and also i put in my launch options -dxlevel 80 and it did lower the cpu but i cannot load anything, the game just crashes so im now kinda stuck with this
btw there are no background programs running i disabled all of those
it even used cpu when i had 0 addons

how the hell do i fix this
(the solution is probably very simple since im kinda stupid)

cpu is intel celeron n3060 @ 1.60ghz (it has some sort of turbo mode which makes the speed go up to 2.5ghz)
4gb ddr3 memory

Windows 10 normally takes up a bit more sys specs than other OS, it could be that it is a bit too much for your current PC, but that's just speculation.

Have you got another laptop or PC around your house?

4 gigabytes of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ddr3 memory. Sorry, but Windows takes up 2GB of memory, leaving you 2 to use, which is astonishing.

Also, if windows ever takes up a large amount of anything, it's just having a fit. Should sort itself out if you leave it be overnight.

I wouldn't say 4GB isn't atonishing, imagine trying to survive with 2GB of ram nowadays. That's where it starts to get painful if you use Windows.

Also @OP it may be an addon updating to be less efficient or just a GMod update

yeah well when it is idle it doesnt use cpu at all it only uses 2 % same goes with memory and hard drive
and i also saw that 2gb memory is minimum for gmod so i think that should be enough to run it
i just dont understand man it used to run smoothly now i cant even load the game
btw i do have a computer and i do play gmod on it but im only here because there is a winter break (school) so i came back to my hometown with friends and family
once the break is over i head back to school and instead of the computer i take the laptop and i want to play gmod on it

@soar it used 80% even when i didnt have any addons so i think that addons arent causing the problem
i dont think gmod is updating steam installs the lastest known version of the game you just downloaded i think

GMOD default only takes up one core, unless you type in a console command to take up more, but even then I don't think it even takes up a lot of cpu.

the computer i play on has windows 10 aswell but gmod doesnt take up cpu at all

Can you go into task manager and tell us what is taking up the most CPU?

@fire there are some services (system host bla bla bla) taking up like 2-10% while gmod pretty much uses all of the remaining cpu and it just sits there
i did leave gmod on for a hour and it still uses 80-98% cpu so i dont think its updating or anything
btw my connection is pretty solid so the update should download in 5 or 10 minutes if there is any

i just updated my video cards drivers and it runs smoothly now
