How to play on Portal maps?

You have to have portal installed on your computer then enable them in Garry's mod by clicking on the small controller in the bottom right of the main menu, then ticking "portal", go to start new game and look for the portal category then select what map you would like to play. ;)

I do belive that you just cant play portal maps in Garrys Mod nor Portal 2 maps.

OK, now I know everything. Thank you guys. Oh,and just 1 thing - I was asking for PORTAL maps, not PORTAL 2, beacuse I knew they don't work.

I don't understand something. Garry's Mod was made in 2013, but Portal 2 was made in 2011. Why didn't the maker of Garry's Mod design it so Portal 2 maps could be used?

Also, why are there NO good Portal 2 maps on the Steam Workshop? I've been around the Workshop quite a lot, and most of the Garry's Mod maps are kinda ♥♥♥♥.

They are both on source engine and use the same type of map file, so they can be imported. I don't know why you are posting on a year old thread though! xd

portal 2 maps DO work (its the same setup as portal if you could get that) but you need to 1. Have the freaking game 2. DON'T GET CONFUSED BY THE RANDOM NAMES, (for instance, 3o10_a {its a hypothetical name that probably doesn't exist ok})

Garry's mod was originally designed for source and half life as a mod of it (which may have been a rom hack to sandbox half life which could inspire the official release) so it might have been in development BEFORE PORTAL 2, and like i said portal 2 IS compatible with gmod and this argument probably would be reversed if quisimon asked to mount portal 2 so people would say portal 1 isn't mountable

Not to sound like an ass... but Garrys mod wasnt made in 2013... it was made in 2004, hence why the graphics arent the best... it was released as a addon for Half Life 2 and uses the same coding as Half Life 2, just some extra lines to make it so you can do what you can do.

Hey, there is a controller icon in the right bottom corner on the menu. click it, scroll down and check the portal mark. that will install all the portal content. this works with other source things compatiable with gmod as well.

when i do it just kicks me to the menu and doesnt load at all

This method works for all source games on steam

so first you gotta have portal 1 installed on your PC
then in Garry's mod in the bottom right corner, there is a controller icon and you gotta click it
inside the menu that pops up, you scroll until you find "Portal" then click the checkbox
now in the singleplayer menu tabs, there should be a tab that says "Portal"
