Proxy or DDoS protection for a Dedicated Server?

I'm working on setting up a dedicated server on a spare computer I have, but since it's run at my house, I don't want an attack to compromise my entire home network. How would I go about adding DoS protection?

You'd have to route all the traffic through an online server anyway. So you might as well just get a slightly faster online server and host your Garry's Mod server off of that so then your players also get better ping.
The VPS providers I've seen don't let you route traffic through their VPS to take advantage of their DDoS protection so I don't know where you'd even find a willing online seller with decent protection for cheap.
