Connection failed after 6 retries on normal multiplayer server, not lan

all other servers seem to work fine?

and that server is up because my friend is playing on it

Try to restart steam... If that doesn't work, you'll have to ask Valve.
It happened to me too, about 30 seconds ago, I restarted and it still won't work properly.
It's an issue that comes from time to time.

1 go to steam library
2 go to gmod properties and click on lauch settings it should be on the first page
3 type this +clientport 27006 i just fixed it today if it doesnt work i dont know what else will

this was 9 months ago, but thanks for the advice :)

When i started my gmod,it loaded... and then i joined a server, i was like 1 hour in the server and then i decided to change server and when i press connect it was saying: Connecting to server...
And i waiting... and then
"Connection failed after 6 retries."

I've tried this and it doesnt work, my connection is fine, i've had no trouble with any other game servers except for Gmod

Changing the client port helped me just now

This actually worked. Thank you. I restart steam and reinstalled steam with also changing the ping.
