Why isn't Portal free anymore?

It was only Free for a limited amount of time when Steam first became avaible on Mac PC's.

Its only been offered free twice and for a limited time. It was free when Steam launched the Mac version of Steam. And later it was offer free as educational game (teach tool) because several schools had requested it, so they offered it free to everyone once again.

It was free for a "limited" time. That's like saying you want to give Warren Buffett $1,000 today as an investment for missing out on the opportunity in 1956 so you can get $30 million. It just can't happen.

Other than the two previous free runs, Portal is usually dirt cheap during the sales, a buck or two at most.

The only times it has been offered for free were when Steam was first released on Mac computers and around the time Portal 2 came out (a few months after that, actually, but close enough).
The game is pretty cheap usually - seems to be almost $2-3 most of the time - but considering how great of a game it is, I'd say it's worth it. Quit being a cheap-skate and buy it already! :P
