What is the deadly liquid that is found in both portal games?

I was talking to some one the other day about portal and we got to talking about what the deadly liquid that is in the testing areas and throughout both games is. Is it like waste products or just a hot oil created/kept for testing purposes?

I know that , but whats the nature of this liquid, Is it like waste products from running GlaDos/the enrichment center and/or is it just some hot-oil or industrial waste put there to enhance security in high security places + add-danger to chambers?

I thought it -might- be that, but why would the enrichment-center/AI put NEUROtoxins in chambers designed (at least many of them) for ANDROIDS? I think its more likely some form of corrosive and/or waste product from which a toxin may possibly be derived from.

I'd say it's just acidic industrial waste.

Well in escape places there is a sign that says DANGER Contaminated Area, with nuclear signs around those words where this sign is in rooms with the goo so I'm guessing it's some radioactive material where the radiation kills you. But what does confuse you is that when a human falls in the stuff, the human drops the portal gun and you can see it sitting there, not being damaged at all and then when the robots go in they get destroyed. And i'm guessing they're made out of the same material because they look the same but apparently not.

Its called Goo/Acid/Toxic Water/Hazard Liquid, and its probably just some unknown deadly substance, created only for testing.
