Achievements won't credit on steam
I finished all the 'least steps/portals/time' challenges a few minutes ago, but my steam was in offline mode since my internet had been down earlier in the day. As shown in this screenshot, I have 14/15 achievements in the game, but only 11 have credited on steam.

Anyone know how to make steam check for my achievements again (I've brought steam back into online mode and relaunched the game, of course)?

Hi guys! :D:

This helped my husband, give it a try :)
After renaming "gamestate.txt" file, just complete simplest challenge map, for example - "(Least Portals - 2 Portals) on Test Chamber 14".

"This is caused by the achievement progress not getting uploaded to the community properly because of an unstable internet connection or whatever other reason.

Navigate to your Portal folder ("C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\<username>\portal\portal") and rename "gamestate.txt" to "gamestate.txt.old". This will re-enable you to get that achievement. Depending on what did and did not get uploaded to the achievement server, you may have to redo one or more of the challenge maps. In most cases it seems just redoing one map is enough to get the achievement unlocked."

This seems like it should work, but some computers don't show the file type in the name, (eg. .txt, .png, .rar, ...) and I don't know how to change that.

I only remembered Google after I posted the comment... oops. Anyways, I tried that and it had no effect, achievements for portal advanced maps still did not credit.

Did anybody found a solution for the problem yet? I struggle with the same problem :(
Toothless Sep 12, 2013 @ 3:47am
Nope, but I've got my engineers figuring that out now...
Holmes Sep 12, 2013 @ 4:25am
I hope those engineers can solve those issues! :)
btw: i only got this problem with the "advanced map"- achievements. All the others are working perfectly fine and are all credited ingame and on the steam page...

Thanks for posting Magic Girl, I'll try it later.

I got it solved with MagicGirls tip! The gamestate.txt file was in another folder than mentioned and it took me forever to find it:

C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\common\portal\portal !
It was not in the folder "username" ;)

anyway, thanks MagicGirl and i hope the others can find the txt-document with my description :) :pixus:

Hi everyone! :B1:

It was a quotation, that's why I didn't change it. But it's true, after steam starts to convert games to a new more efficient format, the file path changed. And now it's indeed as !cE wrote: "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Portal\portal".

I'm very glad that my tip helped You !cE, I hope it could help You too CrazyCarl92!

You are welcome! :D: Have a great day and Viel Spaß! Grüße aus Australia :postcardf:

We should have been working on this... 30 years ago! It's a breakthrough of Aperture proportions.

I confirm MagicGirl's method works flawlessly.
For linux users, the file location is: ~/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/common/Portal/portal/

where's a good place to see how to get all the achievements?

Google is your best friend in the entire world.

Or you look up the Guides provided from other Steam-user ;) There are plenty well made ones!
