Achievements?

Hey I got Portal and I have gotten to Testchamber 18 but I havn't unlock any of the Achievements yet that I have done. Can someone tell me why?

What do you mean? you didnt get achievements before test chamber 18 or after it?

I mean what I said none of the achievements that I should have are unlock (like lad rat and camera sky)

do ever start the game with steam? i dont know if you can do this with portal but some other games you can start without steam and after that steam dont know that you have played it/achieved something...

I didn't get any acheivements at first either and I think part of it might have been because I played some of it offline but when I completed it again online I got all of the acheivements I should have. Im not sure if the internet connection is actually the problem but make sure you are online just in case.

The games I buy from steam I always play them on steam. But thanks for the comment

Maybe that's it I was playing offline when I started the game and didn't start playing online until a later. I'll start a new game (being online) after I finish beating it

I'm having this exact same problem.... and I'm *ALWAYS* online. I haven't had any problems with any of my other games getting achievements, but with Portal, I'm stuck wondering why none of the "story-based" achievements have unlocked...

For achievements that are missing from Steam, even though they appear on the in-game menu, there is a general fix:

This thread should be stickied. Just wanted to pop in and say thank you to @Calmly Frenetic for the fix (and to bump this thread). I finished the game, but realized that I never got the achievement for burning my companion cube. Renamed the text file, loaded up an old save and got the achievement 15 seconds later. Great stuff. :)

You're welcome, Gavius. That's the first time I've heard of someone using the fix for Camera Shy. Can you please confirm whether the in-game achievements list showed Camera Shy as unlocked PRIOR to using the fix? I will keep the main thread for the fix updated:
