Can't start a new game?

At the menu, I press "New Game" and it comes up with an empty dialog box. My only options are "Start New Game" or "Cancel". Clicking "Start New Game" does nothing. Any suggestions?

Click the dialog box, then press star new game..

I have the same problem. Clicking on the empty dialog box doesn't help. Clicking on "Start New Game" does nothing.

Hi. I am having this same issue too. I tried something mentioned on the steam forums to enable the developer console and then type map level_01 which I've tried and it didn't work. The console said it was missing some .bsp files which I assume are the map files. Any way to fix this issue? Also I tried the verify integrity of game files which at first did nothing now it shows the small window then just sits there at 0% I'm not sure what that does if it fixes the files or if it's like verify that I've paid for the game which I certainly did. I did have the demo version of portal, Should I have deleted that first before installing the full version? I'm not sure what to do here. I just want to play portal. I was having issues with running these thru steam but found a work around. I just changed the URL to the patch of the exe file and portal 2 works fine. Just need to get portal working.
So if anyone can help I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

try uninstalling the game then reinstalling it...that worked for me

I fixed it. I ended up reinstalling steam then reinstalling my games by moving steamapps and userdata folders. Now I cannot beat GlaDOS lol.

This is for anyone else who had this issue. If you downloaded the Demo version of portal and want to buy the full version. I would recommend that you first uninstall the demo version and them install the full version. I figured it woula just simply update it from the demo to the full version but it didn't. This is probably what messed up my steam so if you have the demo version (first slice) and you plan to get the full game, uninstall the demo first then install the full game. This just might save you from having to reinstall steam like I had to.
