Portal Linux experiences
My experiences: working somewhat, but sometimes gets lagspikes and brief input lags. But when it works, i get a lot higher FPS than in Windows. Anyway, thanks Valve ^_^

Works fine on HD7850, Ubuntu 12.04 64bit.
I've finished the game without a single crash.

Thanks, Valve, I can haz science!

I can't even start the game.

Double click in Steam, the screen goes black and puf, again in the desktop.

I had the same issue. If you're using AMD gpu, try newer experimental drivers, that worked for me.

Weird, for me it started correctly in Spanish but I wanted to change it to English and it coudn't do it in game (the setting simply reverted to Spanish after hitting either Accept or Apply).
It sets to English succesfully on Steam's game options, though that changes not only the voices but also menus and such.
I'm also missing the captions and had to set multicore rendering to off to prevent lag spikes, just like on TF2.

Edit: the game runs fantastically fast, even with msaa, on my nvidia 250gts with propietary drivers; it was hitting the maximun of 300fps regularly until I reenabled vsync, great job Source porters!

You can share your experience and help me to describe it better.

Damn as the game goes on it becomes unplayable with the 'rumble' problem. Everytime you have to use portals to cover large disances through the air the game sets the rumble pack in an xbox controller off but it is incapable of turning it off. The only way is to save quit the game and go back in. But in the bigger levels thats three or four times. It's no good unfortunately. I have no idea how to raise a bug with debug log proof that the game can't turn rumble off any ideas?

Now working, thanks. After reboot Steam, i can change language to Spanis, but the voices are in English.

When I type in retry in the dev console, I restart the chamber, but I don't spawn with the portal device. The world is also exactly the same as before I did retry.

I just started playing Portal 1 on Linux. I originally played on Windows about 2 years ago. I've reached testchamber 18 (advanced) back then. For some reason I can't complete that testchamber on linux. The exit door won't open. Anyone else experiencing that. Plus quick save and load don't work. Hitting f5, f6 or f9 does nothing. Finally using a xbox 360 controller works only partially, I can't jump or pickup stuff, I can make portals and rumble is messed up. I'm on Arch Linux 64 bit with a Nivdia 580 GTX and a i7-2600K with 8 GB of ram.

You can remap to the controler for those actions in the settings.

Nothing to fix the rumble though, mine get stuck in a loop.

Works well, i get 40-60 FPS everything on high. But sometimes i get glitches with intel graphics. http://s18.postimg.org/oh084qno7/2013_05_03_00007.jpg

Works like a charm. AMD Radeon HD 3600 (RV635) on Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz, Ubuntu 12.04.
Its hard to understand Glados speaking in English. I am not native english, so it would be much easier for me to have subtitles. But they are not working

looking at /portal/cfg/config.cfg , there is

cc_linger_time "1.0"
cc_predisplay_time "0.25"
cc_subtitles "0"
cc_lang ""

Even if I enable them and choose english, it will always restore the default settings :(
