The cake was shown at the end where you beat portal but their was messages saying ''the cake is a lie.'' on the walls in some levels and whats the obsession with the Heart Box?

i think the cake is a lie refers to there not being any cake when you finish the tests, instead there being death.

Conjecture based on the expansion of the lore in Portal 2, The Cake™ was a corporate attraction to get test subjects off the street rather than paying them with money.

As for the companion cube, its implied that many of the test subjects suffered severe psychological damage as a result of isolation and stress of the test chambers and would perceive the companion cube as it were real, sentient, and their only friend in the world, if not more. I'm pretty sure its just satirical human insanity turned up to 11

since everyone already answered the cake question. The Companion cube is what you refer to as the box with the hearts on it. the idea was that players got attached to this cube because you had to take it everywhere like a buddy in a cruel testing environment, you were in it together with this cube. then GladOs had you destroy this cube after. which felt like losing a friend.

On level 4 GlaDos says that the level is impossible and you should make no attempt to solve it. The level is solvable however, if you follow her advice and leave the game on level 4, when you restart the game there is a chocolate cake sitting beside the radio on the main menu. THE CAKE IS REAL
