19 plus ;)

Also, you definitively need to have both. There is no "or".

19 + 5(?) edited levels.

19 levels, Portal 2 has a better plotline

Some people would disagree, but I think the humor and plot of Portal 2 fits the puzzle-style aspect of the game more than the dark humor of the first game.

I personally prefer the first Portal. But hey thats just me.

The first portal is the better game, the second one expands on the first so you need to get both but if you can only get one then it has to be the first. As you wouldn't properly understand the second without it.

There are 19 levels in portal 1. Portal 2 is a better game just because of the sheer fact that it is extremely longer.

Both are great!
Second one is a bit more polished.
Getting both is the best solution! :D
i got portal 1 as a gift so im sticking to it

Portal 2 definitely has a better story, but Portal seems a lot more polished, i.e. the look of things just seems better.

I like portal 2 more.

19+ is a good way to put it. The plus is...well a surprise. A REAL surprise! With real confetti this time. The good stuff!

(Okay, I'm sorry, but I just couldn't help it.)

Portal and Portal 2 are both great, but in different ways. The original is very minimalistic and very streamlined. The humor is extremely sarcastic and passive-aggressive, but it is definitely hilarious. The game lasts exactly long as it has to last and no longer, so it's a short experience (2 and a half to four hours depending on your skill level). And the boss battle at the end is one of the best of all time.

Portal 2 has more over the top, laugh out loud humor. It has three characters as opposed to one, all with their own unique character arcs. Where the original was minimalistic Portal 2 goes in the opposite direction and becomes really BIG. The original Portal showed us what we had to see; Portal 2 shows us everything. The game has a very different "feel" from the original Portal. The original was a very isolating experience, but Portal 2 makes you part of a partnership, in one sense. The boss battle isn't as good, but the final cutscene is absolutely amazing and hilarious and makes up for it tenfold. The game is probably a little over twice as long as the original Portal. Some people say it's easier too, but I never noticed.

Portal 2 does have one big advantage over the original, and that's the co-op. It is definitely one of the greatest co-ops of all time, with its own original campaign and story and new dialogue by GLaDOS made specifically for the co-op. Portal 2 also has the Perpetual Testing Initiative, which is a workshop where you can make and download community-built test chambers, and it features new dialogue by Cave Johnson. This immediately changes the game from one with next to no replayability to one with almost infinite replayability, and that in itself is a huge mark in its favor.

Basically, it comes down to personal preference. There's really no wrong answer here.

i prefer the second
