I play with a controller and when I start the game, I can only move and look around. I can't jump, I can't grab things and I can't fire portals.

Same problem. Says "partial controller support" Previously I have used same controller with this game. Having frequent controller issues with Steam. Plug/Unplug Reset etc. It fails to recognize often. Couldn't get my old xbox 360 controller to work and bought Voyee controller which now works sometimes.

you said that "I can only move and look around. I can't jump, I can't grab things and I can't fire portals. " - so it means that game reads only your sticks, not buttons themselves

in Steam Big Picture mode there are options to change between various control presets, change between XInput / DirectInput APIs - have you tried to configure you controller here?

I have played that game with my third-party controller and it worker fine (in XInput mode) - so there are clearly some issues on your side

Launch the game, then go to Options --> Mouse. Is the 'Enable the Gamepad' box checked?

I was having this same problem today with an XInput gamepad (8bitdo, although I'm sure it doesn't make a difference).

I checked to make sure "Enable Gamepad" was checked under Options > Mouse. It was. But I unchecked it, clicked Apply, checked it again, clicked Apply again, and that fixed it.

I know you asked nine months ago but maybe someone else will have this problem and find this solution.
