Portal: Too short, or just right?
In my opinion, the length of the game is perfect. It makes the game so much more replayable, and every time you play you find different ways to play. Sure, you can beat it in one day, but the Challenge and Advanced maps make up for it.

The thing is, there isn't much of a plot in Portal 1. In the sequel, the game needs to be longer so that it can give backstory, and develop the plot. In 2, Glados is a complete character, but in the first game, she's just someone to explain the game mechanics and be a villian.

Imagine if the roles were reversed. What if Portal 2 was short, and Portal 1 was long? Portal 2's story would be rushed, and Portal 1 would be boring and would drag on for way longer then it needed to. Keep in mind that's a hypothetical situation that would probably never happen.

I just think that if Portal was longer, it wouldn't be that interesting. What do you think?

Unusually, I beat portal within 30 minutes. Portal 2 takes me 2 hours to get through, minus multiplayer. What keeps portal active is its achievements & populaity.

I didn't pay a lot for Portal and it is fun to escape from the long historical campaign games I usually play. It also gave me some mental exercise that most of the other games I play don't have.

Personally i liked how we only got subtle hints of the back story in portal 1. Adds to the eerie effect the game has.

I just got done playing the half life series and decided to replay portal. It IS a short game but it makes up will for that by smaller things that are hard to do, like the radio thing.:p2chell:

the music was better in one. I felt the atmoshpere of two was a bit , different. Two was good and is good but one is better... only the style of one wouldn't work dragged out, even though when I finished it I was like " this should have been longer!" it would probably get boring on replays. One is a perfect length. But two is like a disney film. But if there was no fleshing out two would just be a longer one and not add much. community maps help add more puzzles and portaling. Two could have been darker but they went a more comical route. I loved it first time but second time was "hmmm, this doesnt feel like one". But if it was exact as one then id think "hmmm, this is the same as one but longer". I like whetley but feel he didnt fit with portal. but without him two would be one in repeat. i like one better.

Aaand... now I want to replay Portal. Thank you OP for determining the fate of my evening. I haven't played this since it was released, so I'm curious to see how diving back into it will be. I played Portal 2 when it was released as well, and enjoyed it immensely. The shift for Portal 2 in atmosphere and method of storytelling was a welcome change of pace in my opinion, but Portal still holds a place in my heart.
I'll stream it on twitch now, if anyone wants to walk down memory lane with me for an hour and change. :)

I think they both sould be the same lenght because whats the point of having a game you can finish in an hour and has no storyline. But if it was long you would find out more about who Chell is,why are you at apeture, and also find why GLaDOS is crazy about killing people with dam Neorotoxine .
