I've bought the orange box just at the moment because I wanted HL2 & EP1 & EP2.
I have already bought portal and now I have recieved a portal gift.

all my friends have portal i think so i dont want to gift them it plus also i dont want to waste money on something i already have... if only valve made it so if you already have a game and you buy a collection like the orange box than you dont have to pay for the game you already have...

But the meaning of a boundle or a pack is to buy the games together, what is the opposite of that you have wrote. So I think it is better to receive a gift than nothing. It is my opinion ;)

I totalluy agree but surely they can do something like if you already own the thing you wont have to pay for it in the bundle? in my opinion that would be much more easy than selling a gift copy for a couple keys then seeing if i can sell them into money... :(

does this mean that if i already have portal and i buy the orange box i WONT get a gift another gift copy of portal?!! PLEASE HELP!!

Since you have portal already, you'll get an extra copy if you buy a pack that includes portal like portal bundle, orange box, etc because it's one of the eligible game.
HOWEVER, you only receive an extra copy once. If they gave you an extra copy before when you bought a bundle, you will not receive it again (like if you have portal and buy portal bundle and receive a gift portal. Then you buy the orange box, you will not receive another one again).

Also the gift copy like any copy can't sell in the market, but it is tradeable.
Does that clear it up for you?

alright, so i think i will get an extra copy because i only bought portal from the portal bundle, and when i did get the portal bundle i didn't get an extra copy because i never bought portal before the bundle and therefor i will get an extra copy of portal when i buy the orange box correct?

I'm going to assume you won't get one because it didn't "really say" on the support page, only the portal bundle and not orange box.
Although it's still a good deal buying orange box for $5 if you already have portal.

i haven't recieved any extra copies of portal before and i think it says if you only recive it once than any bundle or thing you can get you will get a extra copy with it. although i heard you can check what you get with the thing beFORE you buy the thing so i dont know if i should try it?
