Portal
I heard chell speak.
She didnt really speak but when going to the cake on the platform and pressing the button so the door can lift up. the door hit chell and chell said "UGH" like she was wounded.

After all, I heard chells voice. No lie.

I did not know this, but it would seem you can make her talk in more then that one situation. Like for example dropping the companion cube on her head.

It's just a generic HL2 female grunt.

Word of god is that Chell is not mute, she just refuses to respond to GLaDOS. In Portal 1, at least. In P2 it might be due to a very minor case of serious brain damage. :p2chell:

That's an interesting point of view.

Chell doesn't even speak to anyone or anything at all in Portal. Not even friendly characters like Wheatley or the Corrupt Cores. Not that she would have anything to talk about, I mean, we don't know ♥♥♥♥♥ about her past, plus everyone around her either wants to kill her, appears for less than a minute which isn't enough time to have a proper conversation with anyone, or doesn't even give her a chance to speak (cough, cough, Adventure Sphere, cough. Maybe because she was in isolation for so long without any other humans to talk to, she doesn't want to speak to computers, she wants to meet actual people. It could be because of a minor case of serious brain damage, I mean at the end of Portal, we do see her (from her point of view) lying on the concrete ground of the Enrichment Centre parking lot, maybe she banged her head and gave herself brain damage that way, so that's why when Wheatley tells her to say the word 'apple' at the beginning of Portal 2, she wants to speak, but her brain is sending commands to the rest of her body to jump instead.

I think it was Eric Wolpaw that said it? If you look on the Combine Overwiki it should have the actual quote, basically Chell doesn't want to give GLaDOS the satisfaction of an answer.

The only problem I have with this is that wheatley prompts her to speak the first time they meet.

Chell can speak, but chooses not to. The reason she dosen't speak is because she does not want to give all those AIs the satisfaction of an answer.:p2aperture::p2turret::p2turret:

I heard that too, only for me, I heard it when a cube hit chell in the head and I heard that sound.
It's me, a random guy that comments on old post

Chell speaks to Wheatley during the 2023 steam sale (although probably not canon)

The Enrichment Center reminds you that Chell will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, can not speak.
