How do I use the Companion Cube emoji

I'm seeing it more and more on Portal comments andI just want to know how to use it.

Its also the case with ALL emojis, so ones like this.....

.... you will not be able to use if you don't have them in your inventory. Once you have ONE emoji in your inventory, there should be a smiliey face inbetween 'Formatting help' and 'Post comment' where you can quickly select your disired emoji. Note that you will have to start typing for it to appear.
