Can't even begin the game [resolved]

Hello, I have a huge problem. I just installed Portal on my mom computer since it was shutting down my onwn after 5 min of games (guess I have a battery problem)...but on my mom's I can't even begin !! It's stuck on the cell with the ominious music and just 'Portal' written...The only touch working is 'enter' which lead me to the success menu...

Some help please ? :(

I have a similar issue. I reinstalled the game after a long time away (I didn't even know the game was uninstalled from my machine) and every time I go in to play it I get the Valve title screen, then about 2 seconds of a loading screen, and it boots me right back to my desktop.

1. Right-click the game title in your Steam library
2. Choose Properties
3. Click the Local Files tab
4. Click "Verify Game Cache"
5. Restart the game

It didn't help me. It stayed on the loading screen longer, almost revealed the menu, but it booted me out again.

I don't completely understand your issue. Can you navigate in the menu?

Or you see nothing, just the background scene?

Problem resolved for me, I just desinstalled an reinstalled again,and now it works.

(I was just seeing the backgound scene, with the camera rotating slowly. No menu, just 'Portal')

All I see is a fuzzy background image like it wants to load the menu. But as soon as the menu begins to appear the game boots me out.
