Portal
My Linux port of Portal is worse than a pirated version
A couple of years ago, I pirated Portal. Now of course, this isn't gonna single-handedly bring Valve down and it was only a temporary thing since later I technically bought Portal multiple times⸻the standalone game as well as the Valve 'Complete' Pack (it doesn't have Half-Life: Alyx).

Since then, I've switched to Linux and thus have gotten used to the Linux ports of Valve games. And they're not flawless. For one trying to play Half-Life mods are a complete pain in the ass and is a story for another day.

For some reason, the music is missing in the Linux version of Portal 2, or at least my version. Just isn't playing. And no it's not something stupid like me forgetting my music volume is turned all the way down in the audio settings. I looked this up but it is virtually impossible to figure out the exact error. Looking up anything about this just gives me answers for the wrong thing. Even after the Steam Deck (which is a Linux gaming device) came out boasting about having Verified compatibility w/ Portal. I'd imagine it would pop up somewhere in the console but I'm not well versed in the Source engine.

The crappy pirated version of Portal is better than the version that Valve is putting on their glorious Steam Decks that they're devoting their attention to. But I don't know, maybe it's just my specific Linux configuration that's causing the problem. I couldn't run Minecraft modded whatsoever until I switched from Debian 12 to Fedora 39 Workstation.

OS[\b] Fedora Linux 39 Workstation Edition

GPU[\b] NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960/PCIe/SSE2

CPU[\b] 12 × AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Cre Processor

Version Source console command output[\b]

Build Label: 7103212 # Uniquely identifies each build Network PatchVersion: 1745010 # Determines client and server compatibility Protocol version: 24 # High level network protocol version

P.S[\b] Does anybody know what the most important information I'm supposed to send w/ these?

Just play without music, or try to find, maybe modification that turns off the music, did you tried to reinstall the game?

First off, `just play without music' is akin to telling someone to watch a movie w/ half the dialogue missing. Music is an integral part of this game.

'Is there a way to get music working in this-'
'Why would you wanna do that?'
That's your first argument there

Second off, I have tried reinstalling the game and verifying the game files even though it seems to do that automatically after install. But it seems that the verifier is also broken: https://i.imgur.com/dDrMMKJ.png.
