Portal - Level 17 bug - no cube

I searched and found a thread from 2011 (!) where someone reported a similar bug, but other than that nothing. When I enter level 17, no cube is there in the tube, and when it opens, nothing falls out, and I am stuck.

Does anyone have a hint how I might get around this?

The save file might be glitched, so try starting a New Game at chamber 17.

To check if there is a problem with the game files, "Verify Integrity of Game Cache":

I verified the cache and started a new savegame on level 17, and one of the two did the trick, thanks for the tip.
