Test Chamber 18 Broken.

Exiting out of any portal on the lowest platform in the acid bath both locks up my camera for a bit and alters my direction so that I always land way out in the acid. Is there any way around this?

Right at the start, where there's a drop to the left that you put the entry portal.

Crossing the gap is easy. Then you need to get up the part to the right, as the gap in the wall to the left leads to a Ratman den.

For the easy method, just shoot a portal on the ceiling above where you need to go:

Basically as you fling yourself across the first gap, you try to shoot a portal on the raised platform (which is quite difficult and precise).

Your portal might be landing too close to the edge, so when you try to go through you just fall into the goo. You could try to centre your portal more, but at that point you may as well just use the easier method.

That's the portal location that screws my camera and changes my direction.

tl;dr: Enable Portal Funnel in the Options.

It's nearly impossible to complete this sequence with Portal Funnel turned off. I remember I almost did it on the very first try (missed the last shot) and then failed probably another 50 times in a row. Then I looked at playthroughs, and people were completing that sequence effortlessly. And unless you're specifically searching for Portal Funnel, it's difficult to find any relevant info about this. It's never an issue during the first 17 levels, they really need to tweak this puzzle somehow.

The forced camera re-orientation can occur at any location during a floor/floor or floor/wall portal transition.
The best way to avoid the effect is to look directly downward or upward when entering the floor portal. Some more discussion of the issue here:
