Portal

How can Portal be modification of Half-Life 2 when it runs on the Source engine?
Half-Life 2 was not made in the Source engine.

When they made portal, they said that the Source Engine is capable of making portals. Also, from online research I can see that it uses the Source Engine indeed.

However, it also has the Half-Life 2 vehicles and what not, but Half-Life 2 is in a different engine alltogether.

I have found the answer.
Source is based on Half-Life 2.

Nah because Counter-Strike 1.6 was a mod of Half-Life 2, and than they made CS:Source which was based on the Source engine which was based on Half-Life 2.

They aren't even mods, they are seperate games.

I ain’t saying it’s a mod I just said they add certain effects like portals and they change the turrent models and add things like a new enemy

Its simple, they used half life 2 as a base to build portal on and left in some content like weapons, textures, and sounds.
Kleadron Mar 14, 2018 @ 7:54pm
And half life 2 actualy uses the source engine. Any valve employee could tell you that.
IT was the FIRST GAME to use the new shiny source engine, dont tell me for one second that it doesnt.

Halflife 2 & Episode 1/2, Portal 1/2, CSGO, TF2 and a bunch others run on the Source engine. Halflife 1, Opposing Force, Blue Shift and CS 1.6 run on Gold Source. Proof of all this is the fact that, duh, the apps are both called hl2 in Task Manager, and also the fact that you can load Halflife 2 and Portal levels in Garry's Mod, which runs on Source.
