EXTREMELY low fps on Portal

I have no idea why, but my portal runs at about 3fps. I just have no words or thoughts as to why this is happening. Whenever I run it, it uses 99% of my cpu power as well on my i5 6400. I also have a gtx 750 and 8gb of ddr4 ram, if somebody could help me that would be great.

are u sure that drivers are installed propertly, also check some rendering settings

I will, but I just discorved that I cannot run anything at a high fps so I'm gonna restart my pc to see if that helps, if it doesn't then I'll try that out. Bare in mind everything was fine until I played portal, it broke my pc when I started it up. Even my disocrd stopped and didn't work and made my mic really laggy (according to friends)

At least it starts.....i cant even play, the game start...black screen, weird noise then back to windows.....

I hop you fix that soon! I can't run my game at 1080p because it messes up my whole computer and makes portal run at 2 fps and I have to restart my computer to fix everything, I just run the game at 720p

i'll kinda recommend you to use some launch options and lower things like "shadow quality" and other things to low, since it helps to improve performance and it makes graphics worse, also try to doing some settings with your drivers to improve the game performance.

also on steam settings enable low performance mode and low bandwidth mode and disable community content
