Beta codes?

so ive been rying to get into what it says "portal steampipe beta" but when i try to access it, it appears as regular portal. is the code thing something i need? and what do i do to get it? plz help!

no. go to portal, properties, then betas. you will see what i mean. but i heard the beta version is pretty interesting which is why i want to play it so badly

You don't have to type in a code to get access to visible betas. All you have to do is click the beta from the dropdown list and then make sure everything in your downloads has downloaded.

Why is there a beta for this game? Isn't this game a decade or more old?

Games often have beta branches and they get forgotten. Left 4 Dead 2 even has a separate beta entry in game library.

so what ur saying is beta is free to everyone but i need to make sure nothing is downloading?
but about the seperate entry thing, is it supposed to be like almost a sepertate game, or is it supposed to be like Portal [beta] if so i did that but it appeared as regular portal

Yeah when people are talking about beta in these source games they mean secret files that you'd have to data mine for, which you could probably download from the internet.

i once was looking for portal prelude but i had to use the sdk stuff
