Portal

GLaDOS has two different designs!
Or at least she has two different "core/facial" designs between Portal & Portal 2. In Portal, her face is white and grey. And in Portal 2 she has the famous white & black face that most if not all used in fan service. I was just playing Portal and I killed GLaDOS first try :D I ran under her stairs to get a better look at her, and her face was white and grey. So that totally confused me on how she manage to get a redesign before the events of Portal 2.

I'm sure it was because the artist drawing GLaDOS probably wanted to redesign her face for the second game.

But it'd be interesting if that was an in-universe event. I meant at the end of Portal the player is taken by some unseen robot, who talked to itself. So maybe that robot redesigned GLaDOS maybe because her face from the first game probably was destoryed. Seriously, both GLaDOS and player went toss out of the Aperture. I don't know how durable GLaDOS was made, but I'm sure that was a HARD impact, so I'm sure she was damaged.

My thinking is that the protective case over the eye was shattered, which made the second generation of GLaDOS appear to have a different head when really it's just missing it's regular case.

Or, y'know, there were multiple GLaDOS systems across the facility which were all connected, as evidenced by the Peer Review DLC's plot.

Yeah good point. After Portal, GLaDOS and Chell were sucked upwards, and seemed to crash on the ground pretty hard. I'm sure some of GLaDOS had broken off from the impact. I thought there was only one GLaDOS. I mean, I'm sure there's other AIs like GLaDOS in the facility. But when Caroline was turned into GLaDOS, it's possible she could have shut down the other AIs so it's only her in power. But I could be wrong, I only played Portal and Portal 2, not dlcs or mods (at least not yet). Thanks for your comment :D It's interesting :D

BTW, there's a Portal 2 reskin pack: http://www.moddb.com/games/portal/addons/portal-2-skinpack-for-portal-1-v12

Cool, but I don't have Portal 2 on Steam. Only on my console for now. Still this is cool.

It's okay, this is just a reskin, it doesn't require Portal2 installed.

Unless you mean that your Portal 1 is also on console, then you're missing it, of course.

But reskin will only change the color of my gun right? And I have Portal 1 on Steam. It just says "Portal 2" so I thought I couldn't get it unless I gotten Portal 2 on Steam.

Well, it's called "reskin", but in reality it's a mix of reskins, converted models and sounds. Lots of stuff in Portal 1 that will look like it does in Portal 2 - walls, cubes, cameras, etc.

Ok.
At the end of one of the Co-op stories (the one with the bird) The bird was tampering with a "Central core prototype" it looked as if it resembled Glados's body from the first portal.

The prototype Had a keyboard interface and it was able to control some parts of the facility.

Maybe this was Glados's old body?

P.s Sorry for the Necro.

I think in Portal 2 her design (after she rebuilt herself) that was her endoskeleton. The Portal 1 design was her prototype since before then she was still being developed and worked on. Someone I think before, said that it's possible after her defeat in Portal 1 her shell, the grey and white, had broken off her from the fall back into her chamber. I think that makes sense, of the famous black and white GLaDOS model that is her endoskeleton or her under case.

I don't mean to shoot down your explanation tho. And aw, I love the little birdies! They appear in more than just Peer Review dlc? I wanna see her birdies again! X3 Her little killing machines x3 they are so cute!

Makes Sense. I always thought of it as she took being destroyed as opportunity to improve and perfect her design.

lol she probably did improve herself as Chell went through the tests. I think in Portal 1, she didn't care about her appear, she was very limited with the platforms surrounding her. Then after she began testing in Portal 2, she decided to re-build herself. If you paid attention to her figure after she's woken in Portal 2, you can see that she's missing parts in her semi-circle cases. Then by the time you see her at her new chamber, she's completely rebuilt and has the ability to move around like she couldn't before. I love her Portal 2 design :D

I thought it was explained by the nanobots in Chapter 4 "The Surprise" in Portal 2. They took the parts of GLaDOS they could salvage and reconstructed it with more armoured parts, but found that they couldn't activate her. So they just left her there until Chell and Wheatley woke her up.

Ohhhhhh, I completely forgot about that part! That makes a ton of sense for the nanobots to go around their repairing business as normal even though GLaDOS was dead asleep. I didn't think about them. Darn, I must have been too distracted with the dialogue and/or testing during that explanation in the game. Lol. :D Thanks for the input :D
