If aperture was abandoned in 1998, then how come the computers look even nicer than mine?
Also, how come there was glados, an AI, in 1998, they were still experimenting with the ASIMO protoype, which was slow and clunky?

They abandoned the place in 200X.

No, it was abandoned in 1998, look at the wiki, and actually, most sources say it was abandoned in 1998

Presumably a facility developing Portal guns is highly advanced compared to consumer tech.

true, but black mesa computers are like, 10 times the size of an aperture one, and aren't near as effective.

The salt mines were abandoned in 1988, the modern aperture facility was abandomed sometime in 200x

No, look at most every source it will either say directly that aperture was abadnoned in 1998, or it will say that portal is set in 2010, 12 years after aperture was abandoned.

This game was probably a version of our society today only way more sophisticated, so In 1998 in there reality they may have different time measurment then ours in our reality 1988 in there time could really be 6014 or some other time, They have portal guns, aerial faith plates and much more so they must of had alot of time to develop these.

6014? you gotaa remember even black mesa 5 years later didn't have aperture tech, yet their said to be WAAAAAY higher tech

Then every source is wrong. Just before you leave the salt mines it shows that the salt mines are closed in 1998. Science continues in the "New aperture"

old apereture (science spheres) was abandoned 1998, and "new" apereture with panels doesnt need science spheres, but destroying them would be imposible, so its built above.

oh ok i get it. thanks, now for the next question, was f-stop going to be test spheres, or just retro lookin chambers? who knows.
Daddy Feb 17, 2017 @ 2:21pm
also, is new aperture still underground, or is it a giant complex?
Daddy Feb 17, 2017 @ 2:23pm
oh yeah and how come in portal 2 everything looks even higher tech than portal 1 when it's supposed to be like aperture is in ruins, and there for, cannot technilogiccally advance any further.
AuTalyn Feb 18, 2017 @ 2:17am
Who's f-stop?
I think after the events of portal 1 all of new aperture that was above ground was destroyed by the explosions after defeating GladOs.

I'm afraid there's no other answer except that portal 2 is a newer game, and valve wanted it to look nicer.

F-STOP was supposed to be test spheres. I really wish Valve would finish up F-STOP because I'm really curious what the mechanic was. The game was said to be mostly complete, but testers disliked that GLaDOS didn't recognize the player. The Cave Johnson area was my favorite part of Portal 2, and a whole game there would be amazing in my opinion.
