No, there is no matchmaking system. Co-op vs AI is only possible locally, online in development.
Online co-op is the main thing I am waiting for in this game.
There actually is an online co-op mode. In the "Create party" menu change the "Versus" mode to "Co-op".
I'm just trying to decide whether it's worth each of us picking up a copy of the game, or if we're better off sticking to local multiplayer.
Would anyone be kind enough to explain any other differences between the game's local & online capabilities, eg...
- any modes that are online-only, or local-only?
- does the view scroll differently? (eg. locked to ball in local, locked to controlled player online)
- any awards/unlocks/progression/similar that players might miss out on if we only play local?
- anything else?
Many Thanks!
- The game supports OFFLINE / LOCAL MULTIPLAYER up to 5 human players (1 keyboard + 4 controllers), and they can be placed on either team (at least in a single one-off match), with AI players filling in any empty slots on each team
- The AI difficulty can be adjusted, but it seems you can only adjust it globally (ie. not have a different setting for each AI player, or even separately for each team)...?
- The game also supports ONLINE MULTIPLAYER with up to 5 human players on each team
- You can toggle the online mode from VERSUS to CO-OP (as mentioned above in Chronszcz's post), which allows up to 5 players to play together against an AI team
- You can tweak the AI difficulty for online in the same way as offline (again, just one global option)
- I haven't had chance to try out the online yet, so I'm not sure if it's possible to have some AI players on BOTH teams at the same time
I also haven't tried anything beyond a quick single match with AI players, so not sure what other modes might be available, or if they work with multiple players (local or online)... though there seem to be various tournaments/cups, including the facility to create your own custom one, so hopefully we can at least enable multiple players in some of that, even if only locally.
{ EDIT: OK, so the tournaments/cups can be played with mutiple human players, but it looks like these are only available when playing offline, as I suspected }
I don't remember seeing any options regarding camera movement, so I don't know if that's handled any differently with online vs. local, but I expect it will simply follow the ball in the same way in both modes.
So to sum up, it looks like LOCAL/OFFLINE is the preferred option & supports all the different modes of play for up to 5 human players, and even allows AI players on both sides (at least for one-off matches). However, ONLINE play does allow up to 10 human players total, albeit seemingly limited to simple one-off matches (unless I overlooked something?). I'm now wondering why local is restricted to 5 human players... maybe some limitation of whatever tools were used to make the game? Anyway, 5 is enough for us!
