Is it possible to regain sanity?

I thought I read somewhere that drinking helps regain sanity but the game doesn't give me any opportunities to do so that i have noticed except for early when at the stranded whale or when I first wake up in the mansion.

Actually, I think it is a lot easier to lose your sanity than to get it back if you drink alcohol. I have not played in a while, but I avoided drinking the alcohol and I rarely lost my sanity.
