[solved] Stuck at shambler, noob or bug?
Hello!
Well that's in the title, I'm stuck at the Shambler level/
I don't understand what we're supposed to do. I mean, there's a knife/dagger to get after breaking some glass, and I can reach that part with no problem, but whenever I break the glass and take the knife, I can't stop being killed. Here's what happens:

I break the glass and immediately takes the dagger (should I wait? is taking the dagger the good option?) Then, either I sneak or run, no solution seems to be the good one:

- If I sneak, the Shambler is already too close and it either see me immediately, or it sees me before I can flee or hide in the closet. I also tried to turn around the showcase until it gets bored of me but it never happens and it always ends by its claws in my jaws
- If I run, it's always fatser than me. That terrible thing can magically catch me even when I'm not close to it so I guess it's a no way. And if I run to the closet, it always sees and eats me after opening the closet.
- If I try to stab the shambler with the dagger, nothing happens. I'm going to try to stab that damn door or that damn painting - if only I could do anything after taking the dagger qAq halp me I'm a noob

> Before you ask: yes, I've tried to wait in the closet before I come to take the dagger, hoping the shambler would live its life y'know. Doesn't change a thing apparently.

Another problem: when the Shambler sees me slightly but I can hide in a closet, it'll come just in front of the closet and walk in front of it without leaving. Right, left, right, left, I'm still here, buddy! I'm serious, it NEVER leaves. It never changes room, and its walk is shaky, seems buggy. I've watched youtube videos to know how to get this passage but for other people it seems like the Shambler move on when you're hiding. Not for me. When I hide it decides it's comfortable just in front of that closet and now it lives here until I suicide Pierce by opening the closet. Is that a bug or did I do something wrong? It's driving me crazy :'D I'm done seing that creepy silhouette just dancing pls send help

If any of you got anything, I'll take it. Any tips, advices, strategy is good. I don't want to give up the game here, it looks like it's just the beginning!
I finished the two Styx both in the hardest difficulty without a problem (other stealth Cyanide games), and I passed the asylum with my fingers in the nose as well. I don't know why am I struggling so much here? I'm desperate qwq

there are multiple daggers and only one is the right one
You need to sneak right at the beginning, try to get the the right side from the painting and into the side chambers.
You will need to grab the dagger and slash the painting
Hiding ohly works if he doesnt see you already
Try to sneak and use any piece of art you can see as hidingspot

Thanks for your answer, Flying Fox! The dagger I'm grabbing is the same as the one on a drawing I found behind the Shambler painting before activating it. Yellowish with two interlaced blades and some spikes?
I tried to stab the paiting, but hell, I can't reach it! The tables/showcases don't hide me, the shambler sees me throught. And there's nothing else in this room

Dang I never felt like such a noob :steamsalty: There is no other strategy? Other than keep hiding and dying until you get a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of luck for the shambler to leave you alone? I counted and I'm almost at 40 tentatives :'''D it's driving me crazy

the strategy is - from the spawnpoint right of the painting directly walk down into the seperated room on the same side. Sneak as possible.
Use the screams of the shambler as a way to measure where he is, do not directly look at him.
Crouch along the wall from the one seperated room into the other one on the left of the painting (from when looking at the painting).
The dagger is in that room.
Once you have the dagger either hide inside the closet and wait for him to go somewhere else as he will get noticed by the glass shattering, or dash straight to the painting if the shambler is far enough away and not in your direct path (e.g. in the other seperated room)

this is more or less the hardest part of the game (while another is fairly similar in difficulty)

Hey! Couldn't follow your strategy straight, and I spent lot of my time hidden in closets, but I finally made it. Thank you so much for your help! You're a sweetheart ~

As for Cyanide, if you can read this: never again. That part was so far one of my worst gaming experience, so damn frustrating. I can't believe I'll continue this game, curiosity I guess. Give me Styx back!

That level made me pull up a walkthrough. Although it did remind me of Ghostbusters 2.

Here's how I beat the Shambler in the art gallery. It was pretty easy once I figured it out after dying *a lot*.

Before this sequence starts, top up your lantern with oil from the supply in the gallery and turn up your speakers or put on your headphones. Your ears are going to be your eyes here.

Once you're in control of the detective again, you are already crouched. Turn around 180 from the painting and light your lantern (light seems to slow the thing down, and it's not that speedy to start with).

There's a small room ahead of you to your left, To the right of that is the central part of the room you're already in that leads to an exit you can't use. Further to the right is another smaller room (this is where the dagger is, but don't try to make a bee-line for it. The monster is over that way).

Crouched, scuttle at best speed into the smaller room to the left. DO NOT LOOK AROUND FOR THE SHAMBLER. There's something in the lore that mentions looking at it draws its attention to you. If you see movement, look away and move away. It makes a load of noise as it slobbers about looking for you, so let the sound be your guide as to where it is. As soon as you are into the leftmost room and out of sight of the main gallery, stand up and RUN to your right out of the room you're in, across the part that is connected to the main gallery room, and into the other small room. It's a pretty direct sprint.

The display case with the dagger you want is in the back corner of the room from the doorway where you just ran in. There's a big creepy Sphinx-like statue to the right of it and one of the tablets with glowing text on the wall just above it (it won't be glowing in the dark during this sequence, but you would have seen it glowing before when the lights were on).

Activate the display case to smash the glass. The noise will draw the Shambler to your location, but you have time. Breathe. Immediately activate the case again to pick up the dagger.

Turn to your right and run along that wall into the main gallery and around to the front of the room to the painting. The Shambler will be on your trail, so activate the painting as soon as you get to it. That will trigger the cutscene that means you survived.

To give you an idea of how slow the Shambler is, the first time I did it like this, I forgot in my haste to do the second activation of the display case and actually pick up the dagger. I didn't realize until I got to the painting that I didn't have it. Whoops! I was still able to run back to the left along the same path I had taken before, grab the dagger, and run back into the gallery to finish off the painting all without being killed! Who knew?

If the monster gets too close, hide in one of the large cabinets in each of the smaller rooms until you see and hear it move off. If you stay in a cabinet for longer than a few seconds, the detective will start to have a panic attack. While it's distracting and makes seeing and hearing what the Shambler is doing a bit harder, nothing else terrible will happen as a result. Stay put until you're safe again. Remember to relight your lantern when you step back out of it and get a move on!

Good luck! You can do it! :steamhappy:

Yeah, I dropped my experience on here for the sake of other people searching for info who are having a hard time getting through this part. Glad you got past it already! :D

Well, I had to look this up here because I was getting fed up not knowing what to do, and frankly this is just piss-poor design. I mean, I'm carrying a lighter and a lamp, the room is littered with oil to fill up the lamp, and at least a couple times right before coming to this room the game makes reference to burning the painting. So naturally (to me, at least) I keep getting killed trying to figure out how to set the stupid thing on fire. Isn't that way more sensible than running around smashing display cases with a monster chasing you? Honestly, just knowing this is the solution makes me want to give up and go finally play Resi 7 instead.
