As far the lighter goes, I didn't even know about when Zippos started appearing, suppose they should have used a Ronson instead. I understand the annoyance of this though, as when I see certain firearms used out of timeframe it completely ruins the immerision for me.
The rest I can only agree with your theory that I think lots of material was cut in order to meet a deadline/requirement. It was very clear from my experience that hte first part of the game was far more grimdark and polished than the last half of the game.
Edward Pierce was in the Great War, so maybe he took the lighter back home.
The trench lighter come around 1914-1918 and worked just like the later Zippo lighter.
As for the zippo lighter one simple answer- It looks cool and it serves a good gameplay mechanic so i dont see the issue with it so much.
The trailer about what you thought was a dunwich horror subplot seemed off after looking at the video the clips of "My son is" and "Monster" sound off and they were probibly not recorded in the same session (ex she could have called charles a "Monster" and they just used that clip for it) also the "this creature is an insult to god" line was probibly directed twards the leviathan. But i do agree the game does feel almost like there was either some quick cuts or hastily made in some areas, so the concept of this much cut content can be felt through the game if your already expecting it.(A Dunwich Horror subplot would be awsome though)
As for the dreams i would put it down to the fact that when the trailer was made back in early 2017 they had finished most of the models, levels, and had an idea of the story but gameplay wise wouldnt have had much. So it makes sense they incorporated some cool interpretations of how they thought the final project would look like. The specific dream your referencing got downcut to a short cutscene from when you used the winch to go through the sewers into the warehouse.
And as for Sarah once again its a trailer not actual gameplay footage so same case as the dreams.
The main problem with the game is less about cut content and more about the fact of over flaunting about the game in trailers and on reviews but in actual gameplay its very lacking and kinda barebones. I stayed away from the hype because i knew the story wasnt going to be standard CC so i wanted it to be intresting and new which it was, but i would say if you played it expecting what you saw from the trailers you would be dissapointed.
