Is there any form of combat in this?
I'm aware it's more a stealth game than something like Call of Cthulhu Dark Corners of the Earth, but I heard different places saying either there's none whatsoever or we have a gun that's to be used in dire situations, So I was wondering which was true.
I mean I'll still be picking this up regardless but I kinda dislike horror games like Amnesia where we're entirely defenseless and have to run and sneak, like in this there are human cultists who we should be able to somewhat take on even if its incredibly difficult

From what I understand, you have a gun, but you gotta use it sparingly.

I belive the emphasis of this game is on the investigation and stealth. Combat, while doable, has a high chance of giving you more than you can deal with in most cases if what I've read is correct.

It is. In the CoC universe, every encounter is highly dangerous, and you tend to avoid combat in the majority of cases. Only when there is no other option you start a fight. And in any case, never, ever fight against any kind of monster alone.

See that I can get behind, I like puzzle games and stealth games but in the context of this game and considering we're a P.I. I thought it'd make sense if we had some form of combat experience

Uh, it's Lovecraft, almost everything is supposed to drive you insane with no respite even in sleep, leading to suicide pretty quickly. But if you want to go by the pen and paper side of things, fighting is almost never the answer and there should only be a couple possible fights since the bodycount quickly piles up.

Dark corners of the earth was...something else and tried to explain it away by having Jack be a Yithian host for the 6 years he couldn't remember. While trying to use that as an excuse for the things he could do and see.

Not everything in Lovecraft drives you insane immediately, it's when they get in too deep is that they go nuts, Maniacs, Cultists are just human and can be killed by conviental means, Deep Ones and Mi-Gos for example can also fall by conviental means, but once you get to things like the Shoggoth and other more terrible and higher begins all you can do is run as nothing you've got will deal with them, you just gotta hope you surivie with a shred of your sanity.

Also Keep in mind this is based off the Pen & Paper RPG and that one does have combat in it, it's just not the solution to all problems and sometimes just gets you killed, So I'm sure there will be weapons in the game they just won't be useful all of the time depending on what you're up against.

I like the idea of having the possibility of using a gun but at the same time knowing that it won't help in 95% of all the events.

Somehow that gives you a false sense of personal security. Just like carrying a loaded gun with you all day long in RL.

You're a democrat aren't you?

The game has no combat, except where it's contextually-based. You seem to have a gun but you can't select it during normal gameplay. Even the one boss fight I encountered didn't require me to perform any combat maneuvers.

You can invest in the strength skill which will give you the ability to handle certain interactions differently but even if you don't use strength, and use any other way to around that interaction, the story seems to progress in a completely linear fashion. There is an illusion of choice and how certain actions seem to affect your "destiny" but I haven't seen anything so far in the story that actually changed because of my actions.

I know I am being vague af, just trying to avoid spoilers.
